Movies, Film and My Opinion

  Surprisingly, this was a really good movie! Who knew that Dreadpool could be so delightfully funny without the blood and guts and profanity! The main idea for this movie is pretty much a gamer's dream come true: you create something that has a life of its own, and someone wants to kill it. And on top of that, you work for your dream company and the company has issues with you. It's just crazy and so real! And it was really good to see online regular people with their YouTube shows and whatnot in this. Social media has a real hold on our world today. I was hoping for a romantic cyber twist, but instead got something in the end that I didn't expect. And Joe Keery, who was wonderful on "Stranger Things", would have been fantastic in "Ready Player One." Just sayin'!

 This wasn't the best of all the Marvel Movies for my husband and I, but this had a lot of action. And I can reconfirm that dragons are real. And Awkwafina has made her full transition from comedienne to serious actress. Wow! And I gotta find out if she does her own stunts! I didn't really buy a "love relationship" between Awkwafina's character, Katy, and Simu Liu's character, Shaun. I felt more of a "best friend" vibe and not a "romantic" vibe. It was good to see characters from the Marvel universe show up like Ben Kingsley and Benedict Wong, as they reminded most audience members that "yeah, Marvel universe here, hello!" The story starts off fun and funny, but then it gets serious with Shaun's dad and his background and then his mom and how she dies. Revenge is a moving force within the Marvel universe and so much so here. The martial arts moves in this movie look like a dance to me. So much of a slow moving dance, and then ...

 omg this was just silly. So silly. And a star-studded movie. It's interesting to see how many genres and movies that Weird Al had to get permission to parody: Rambo, Conan, Indiana Jones and even Gone with the Wind. This movie proves a good point, though: ya gotta have friends. The rich and powerful are nothing without positive backup. And George's friends were there for him, poor or rich. It's an entertaining movie and one of my husband's favorites.

 I really, really enjoyed this movie. I love the idea of the Addams Family anyways, so this was just....yeah. This movie had me within 10 minutes with it's one-liners. By the end of the movie, my favorite character is still Lurch. The things that teenagers go through anyways is magnified in poor Wednesday Addams. So many teenagers want to leave home, question their identity and want to be first in something. I get it, I do. And when the wrong hands twist her mind, it's disastrous for all. And family is family: whether by blood or love. Lurch is not an Addams by blood, but by God will the Addams defend him and protect him! The music might seem a little odd in this film, but now I want the last song by Snoop Dog, "It Ain't Nuthin'". It's a short film, too. But this was pretty entertaining, especially for my first time back in a theater after the whole COVID thing. I'd recommend this on DVD anytime!

  So, the action is pretty good in this movie, the villain is just..yeah, needs to die and die soon and doesn't, and the major twist in the movie (well, two major twists, really) definitely takes the viewer by surprise - but overall, I was not impressed. In fact, I had to watch this twice because I fell asleep during the first viewing. It was boring. Too much talk in the beginning of the movie. The father is definitely the comic relief in this movie, and it's good to see this character's acting range from "Stranger Things" to this. But if this is where Natasha's background stars, continues, etc, then ok. This is what Marvel wants. But compared to the other Marvel movies, I'd skip this and watch one of the others more.

 Well, to quote my husband, "Disney created another villain backstory to make the evil acceptable." It was acceptable when we saw the Disney version of 101 Dalmatians when we were kids. Unfortunately, times have changed.  But on the plus side, this movie didn't suck. Cruela had a mother that loved her. She had a birth father that loved her. And she had two mates that cared about her like family. Oh and a dog. Can't forget the dog. She did have a good heart, but turned when she found out about the murder. The role of Anita, played by  Kirby Howell-Baptiste, wasn't in the movie enough for me. I wanted to see her more. I wanted to see her meet her mate. I wanted that beginning for what we of the younger generation of the Disney movies would remember in an iconic movie. That "ah yeah!" moment. Emma Stone did a wonderful job as Estella/Cruella. The emotions, the stress, the pick-pocketing teamwork with her mates...yeah, that was well done. Her work relationsh...

  This movie wasn't as long as I expected it to be. It also didn't start off like most typical Hollywood movies - with a back story, a lead-in, the journey to where they are now....they had a cleaver way of going back and forth to the present to the past and showing the audience what lead up to why they are on the mission they are on now. And the sacrifices that had to be made in order to achieve the objectives of one organization. Most of the characters were not ones I knew or recognized so it was fun to get to know them. There was a lot of "gore", a lot of blood shed and a lot of "male butts" in this movie. And the main evil of the movie was not what I expected. Most of all, for me, I loved seeing my friend, Lynne Ashe, on the big screen. She played Polka-Dot Man's mother and she was fantastic! She looked like she was having a lot of fun and she had a great cast to play along with! For DC fans over the age of, I'd say, 12 or 13, this would be a mus...
