Masters of the Universe (2026)

We took in the new movie last night, my husband and I, as he is a big fan of the He-Man cartoon series and the comics and he has figures and Castle Greyskull and knows a good bit about all the characters. Sitting there watching him through the movie was a delight - he was a big kid again. And I think this will happen to anyone who grew up in the 80s with the cartoon and the comics and the movie back in the day with Dolph Lundgren will totally enjoy this. For me, this was a very funny movie. Lots of comedy. Young Adam, played by Artie Wilkinson-Hunt, starts out a very weak prince. His father wants him to be more, to defend himself, to be strong, to protect those he cares about. Man-at-Arms wants him to have the strength and knowledge to protect himself and his kingdom. And his bestie, Teela, played by Camila Mendes, looks out for him, protects him from time to time, but she still cares. When an attack comes from Skeletor, played by Jared Leto, the royal family with the help of the Sorceress, played by Morena Baccarin sends Young Adam some place where he won't be found - his mother's home of Earth. And for 15 years that is where Adam lives and learns to deal with his feels and to help out his company but HR is worried that his obsession with finding a sword will interfere with his job. And yes, the HR manager, played by Sasheer Zamata, is a total Hoot! She is just too funny in this film! But the whole work thing and the conversations with Adam's roommate, Hussein, played artfully by Christian Vunipola, definitely show how today's society would handle someone like the Adult Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine. Soft, feelings, talk it out, group therapy, there has be a way other than violence. But when Adult Adam finds his sword and his world, will "talk" be enough to save his family? His friends? his cat, Cringer, voiced by Tom Wilton? It's a rollercoaster ride of a movie with a lot of action, a lot of talk and by talk I mean a LOT of monologuing! I understand where Syndrome from "The Incredibles" gets it...LOTS of talk! Feelings. But in the end, will it help? Skeletor was very funny, btw. Very campy. It was a delight to see another villain for villain's sake: no back story. No reason. Just evil. Just selfish. But Evil-Lyn? Ooohhh she's selfish, too! And I would watch out for this woman! I think she has plans! This movie is a must-see if you really need a good laugh. No matter if you're a fan of the cartoon series or not, you will laugh. At some point in the movie, you will smile. You - have - the power!
