The New Mutants

Um, well, this was not what I expected. The previews showed this as a horror movie, and it did have a good bit of horror in it. But these are mutants. They are teenagers. And there is something fishy going on at this school. I love watching Maisie Williams in anything since "Game of Thrones" and "Doctor Who". She's just great to watch. The rest of the cast did a very good job creeping me out and making me jump from time to time. The story follows Mirage and her talent. Her bears in her life. And how her power affects the others. And it's just creepy and real and then it's magic and then it's just...so very different than any other X-men movie I've ever seen. It's not for the faint of heart. But they do get to care about one another and there is nothing in this world like a "team".

Sing 2

I don't care what others say about this movie or its predecessor, I really, really enjoyed this movie! I enjoy music, and good music and good animation are a marriage I can't ignore! And a decent story with a good villain is now my thing. Poor Mr. Moon is gonna get his show noticed but man, he makes bad decisions. Or he makes smart decisions for good reasons with bad people. And then, he has to find the famous Clay Calloway. And Clay has his own demons. Or, ghosts, rather. And voiced by Bono! Holly cow! I never would have placed him! And Mr. Crystal is a true villain: smiling for the fans and the tv but man! Behind the closed doors! He's a wolf! And what a cast of characters to help Mr. Moon fight his deadline and keep his word! I just so enjoyed this roller coaster ride and I must see this movie again!

Respect

I'm so glad I saw this movie. I didn't know a lot about Aretha when she was alive. Now I see the struggle, the father, the mother, the sisters, the lovers, and I'm pretty sure her kids are all still alive, not sure. But her talent was evident as a young girl. And she really should have confided in someone she trusted at a younger age. It would have helped some. And alcohol..ugh! I had no idea! And the 60s...yeah, I heard that was rough for Blacks at that time. But for her to volunteer her time to help Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. See? So much I didn't know! And Jennifer did an excellent job portraying the Queen of Soul. This movie was well-done!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

I really, really enjoyed this movie so much better than the last "Ghostbusters" movie. The music was just spot-on in every scene, the young actors showed a lot of what normal kids go through growing up, moving to a new place, being out of place with their peers, but finding that one friend. And learning about your past. McKenna Grace, who plays Phoebe, isn't really recognizable in her character! Well done! I never would have pegged her in this! And Finn Wolfhard is definitely that quirky teen trying to prove himself and finds an instant attraction in a new town. Love Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, but here as Mr. Grooberson he finds a light and possible answers to his research in young Phoebe. And poor Carrie Coon who plays Callie - one bad thing after another brings her to this farm. This "Dirt Farm". Poor thing. But she finds a lot of trust in Mr. Grooberson, even as ghosts take over the town. This was an interesting ride and yes, a few places I just "jumped"
