Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeaquel

 Granted, this movie is from 2009, but I'm just now getting around to seeing it. I've seen the first movie and the villain, Ian, played by David Cross, played it well as his motivation was selfish. Pure selfishness. Now, the Chipmunks go to school. And Dave, played by Jason Lee, is not completely in the movie as he has an accident, and yes, Alvin, voiced by Justin Long, is involved. Innocently involved, of course. So, the Chipmunks are sent to Aunt Jackie, played by Kathryn Joosten. But hospitals are a theme in this movie and now Toby Seville, played by comedian Zachary Levi, has to take care of the Chipmunks and make sure they go to school. And not just any school - they're going to High School. Skip Elementary School, skip Middle School - they are headed to High School. The toughest years of their lives and boom - there they are. They are popular outside of the halls of West Eastman High, with millions of fans - but what happens in High School? How do they stay "cool" and "popular"? And this movie introduces us to the girls - The Chipettes: Brittany (voiced by Christina Applegate (I had no idea)), Eleanor (voiced by Amy Poehler) and Jeanette (voiced by Anna Faris). The Chipettes don't have the "umph" or the "strong strength of presence" that the original Chipmunks have, but they're new and they're flashy and the evil Ian wants to promote them. But will anyone warn the ladies how Uncle Ian treated the original Chipmunks? Will the ladies take the spotlight from the guys at school? Will tension in High School tear the two teams internals apart? This movie reminds me so much happens in high school, kinda like "Grease" but not as intense. This just goes to show that no matter what mammal you are, high school is tough. And life lessons and life-long friends are made. It was a decent "squealquel".

Michael (2026)

 I guess I was expecting more. I was expecting the abuse. I was expecting the violence. I was expecting the controversy. And I didn't get that. I got music. And yeah, I'm gonna admit that I sang through the movie, yes I did, because I still own "Thriller" on vinyl and I remember listening to it over and over again in my brother's room when he wasn't home. But this movie...I wanted more. I think  Jaafar Jackson did a great job as Michael and his emotion came through very well, but I wanted more from my idol. I was very pleased to see Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. She brought out the tender in that woman completely - a mother who will do whatever is necessary for her family. Good to see Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, but I didn't see or hear about Janet at all. Colman Domingo did a good job as Joe Jackson with his facial expressions and domineering Prescence especially with the record executives. Wake Up, Dead Man, A Knives Out Mystery

 Wow! Wow and wow! This was my 2nd favorite next to the original "Knives Out". A priest is re-assigned to a place he never could have been prepared for: the devil is alive and well in the church, on the grounds, in the people and in the plans. Josh Brolin plays Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, the local head priest and "God" to most folks. They don't jump unless he says "how high." There are only a select number of parishioners that stick with his word, as the rest of the congregation is slowly run out by his sermons. But there's a deeper mystery here and Josh O'Connor, who plays Jud Duplenticy, wasn't supposed to be there. A sermon happens, the Monsignor falls, and there is a murder in the church in front of witnesses. So who did it? Or was it more than one person? Or did one person make it look like it was more than one person? So much is going on in this story and then...cops show up. Geraldine Scott, played by Mila Kunis, calls up a professio...

Holidate

 hehehhe ok, I honestly just put this movie on to have something in the background while I was cooking dinner. Lo and behold, my husband sat down on the futon and started watching it and laughing uncontrollably. This girl has a mom trying to get her into a relationship, any relationship. And she's got an Aunt who loves any male at all. The leading lady, Emma Roberts, who plays Sloane, runs into Luke Bracey, who plays Jackson Pieretti, with one of the sexiest Aussie accents ever. These two agree to be each other's dates every holiday. And I mean EVERY holiday in the U.S. But Jackson states he's not interested in her, not seriously, and so Sloane goes along with it. But what happens when some else is interested in Sloane? And what happens when Jackson sleeps with someone else? Does it matter? They aren't in a relationship. They're in an agreement.
