Supergirl (2026)
My husband and I, being superhero fans, really wanted to see this movie and see the differences and possible similarities to the TV "Supergirl" that we enjoyed so much starring Melissa Benoist. I did enjoy the introduction, at least to me, of Superdog, Krypto. It's sad he wasn't in most of the movie, except for flashbacks, but it was still good to see him.
Supergirl herself, played by Milly Alcock, was not as attractive to me as a superhero. We were introduced to her in the movie as a drunk, and lots of throwing up. Actually, more throwing up during the movie, so I guess that's a thing she can put on her resume. She was very cocky, knowing her strength, until someone shoots her dog. And like my husband said "Didn't this guy learn anything from John Wick?" Truly, don't mess with the dog. It will not go well for him. And yes, Kara had a heart - she cared for her dog, she cared for the girl with a lot of revenge, Ruthye, played by Eve Ridley, and she cared for the individuals that could have been hurt by the villain, Krem. But her overall lackadaisical attitude did not warrant me to follow her story.
I didn't get Krem, the villain's, purpose. Krem was played by Matthias Schoenaerts. I didn't get that he had a point, a purpose, what he wanted. And I'm big on decent villains.
And Ruthye. Saw her parents murdered and starts the movie going with revenge. And I'm good with revenge, but Ruthye isn't strong. She isn't trained. She's not completely smart, either. She's lucky. And she doesn't listen when someone tells her to "stay put". It's annoying. I was hoping she would be trained, she would have something that would save her from being in trouble. Nope, not a thing. She's just lucky.
The actual "Name" for this movie was Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. I heard he really wanted to play this part and play it he did. I didn't get his purpose at the beginning but later, when I found out revenge was his purpose, too, I was ok with it. I will say he rides his motorcycle like he owns it, and it makes me wonder - is that Jason's REAL bike that they did up for the movie?
Overall the fight scenes were interesting and anytime our sun hit Kara was interesting for the bad guys, but overall this was not my favorite superhero movie. I wanted more. And less throw up.
