Wicked: For Good
It wasn't bad. It wasn't as good as the first movie, but it wasn't bad. Elphaba is in rare form and fantastic as she flies around with her agenda: to free the animals who could have spoken and give them freedom. They need to be back in Oz society. But she's the evil one. She is the one the people are against. But really, she's not. And she has allies. Cynthia Erivo has a wonderful voice, a very straight Alto voice, but she's not spectacular. She's good. And her acting skills are top notch. It's just that in my past theater experience, I have witnessed women with better voices for that role. But Cynthia is believable as Elphaba. And her love for Glinda as her best friend/sister in life is also believable. I believed their love. I believed the sisterhood that they had. And Ariana Grande proves a very self-absorbed and emotionally torn Glinda. And Elphaba is not the bad one here: the Wizard needs to prove himself a good guy, a guy doing the right thing for all people. And suspicious as she was in the last movie, so does Madame Morrible, played beautifully by Michelle Yeoh. I wonder about her character's motives the entire movie. And there's something torn about Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey. He's conflicted: He does love Glinda, he now loves his new job in Oz, but he knows the difference between right and wrong. He knows whom to protect and whom to seek justice from. But will it cost him? Will decisions cost them all? Even though I've seen the musical, I was very caught up with the plot and the twists. This movie is worth a 2nd watch - like, right after watching the first one again.
