Red One

 I'm a little different than my friends and associates: I like my Christmas movies with some action. I like the running, the jumping, the falling out of trees. I like the gun shots and the death and the rescues and the love of family in the end. I like car races and jumping off buildings and saving the world. This is the kind of movie I like. "Red One" is the kind of Christmas movie I like. Dwayne Johnson plays Callum, a bodyguard/security guard for Santa Claus who comes to retirement, but before he can get his foot out the door, Santa is kidnapped by a powerful witch. What is he gonna do now? How does he find him? What will the world do? It's Christmas Eve and Santa has a big job ahead of him. Zoe, played by Lucy Liu, assists him by finding the man who helped the witch break into the North Pole to kidnap Santa. This man is a pro at getting information, pick-pocketing people and being on the naughty list. Chris Evans plays this man, Jack, who thinks of nothing but himself, and his son, of course. But how can he help? He doesn't believe in Santa. So how is Callum gonna convince him to help? I enjoyed the storyline very much and the biggest surprise for me was Megan Hayes, actress extraordinaire, as a mother in line with her kids near the beginning of the movie. I was stunned and was shushed and just totally delighted to see her on screen! I will definitely see this movie again!

 So much hype and marketing has been placed on this movie for months! And I mean MONTHS before it's release. And I finally got to see it. Granted, my husband and I saw the Broadway tour of "Wicked" years ago so I had some comparing to do. I definitely can see the theater crow singing through the whole thing. It's what we do. Cynthia Erivo did a very good and innocent job with Elphaba. She brought an innocence to the character that Idina did on Broadway. Her voice was not "over-the-top" and she hit all the familiar notes just right. Ariana Grande did well as G-linda, and later Glinda, the good. The snobbiness, the self-interest, the power-hungry - just all of it was there. The swishing of the hair was just hysterical. She played the part very well and paired well as a friend to Elphaba. The American Society of Magical Negroes

 I saw this movie and wanted more. I wanted more of the magical world. I wanted more adventure. I wanted higher stakes. I just wanted - more. A young black artist, Aren, fails to sell his yarn art. Bartender, Roger, notices this young man has a heart and invites him into the world of magic and friendship. Black people from all over the U.S. are in this magical community and they are taught to make sure white people are ok. Because if white people are ok, then black people can be ok. Aren decides to join this magical community and they get him a job. A really NICE job, next to his client: Jason. Aren needs to make sure Jason is ok. Work wise and life wise. And then there comes a woman, Lizzie. Aren met her first, and is smitten. But talking to Jason, Jason has had a crush on Lizzie for a while. The Fall Guy

 Wow! What a play on words! Not only is Colt Seavers, played by Ryan Gosling, a stunt man, a Fall Guy, but also in the movie he takes the blame for a murder he didn't commit! A Fall Guy! Well done! And for many movies and through his career he works with Jody, played by Emily Blunt, and they crush on each other but does anything ever happen? Is it regret for them both? Will they re-unite to save a movie? So much going on in this movie and so much action within action! The Action on the set and the action in the real world mix! And the best side kick I've seen in a long time, Dan Tucker, played by Winston Duke. He's amazing and on the side of right the entire movie! My husband is a big fan of the original "The Fall Guy" series and totally was in to the movie the entire time. He felt a lot of nostalgia with it and the movie played on all the old stuff.
