The Gilded Age (TV Show)

So, I just finished season 2 of "The Gilded Age" on what I call HBO Max. You know, it really wasn't that bad! It's easy to follow, it takes me back to a day and time when America was relatively new but with old opinions and the class system was relevant with the black vs white system. Aunt Ada and Mrs. Van Rhijn live in this old house with old money from Mrs. Van Rhijn's late husband and they have invited their niece, Marian, to live with them. Mrs. Van Rhijn wishes for Marian to marry well and into wealth of a well known suitor and their family. Mrs. Van Rhijn's son, Oscar, has his own secrets as he is in love with someone he can't publicly be in love with. Mrs. Van Rhijn is not the stereotypical white woman of this era: she takes a chance on a young black lady named Peggy Scott and hires her as her secretary. Ms. Scott lives with the servants downstairs but reports to Mrs. Van Rhijn as letters and responses and such need to be written. Ms. Scott is an aspiring writer and gets a side job at a black newspaper in season 2, I believe. She has her own secrets and must leave Mrs. Van Rhijn's employ, but did come back at a later time. Across the street are the Russells, which means new money. And Mrs. Russell wants desperately to fit in. Mr. Russell invests in things like the railroads and makes money and wants his son to follow in his footsteps, but his son wants to be an architect. And his son loves women, and when his heart is set, he's pretty stubborn. And we have Mrs. Astor and the wonderful Mr. McAllister, played by Nathan Lane. So many stories, so much going on, so much at stake, and it's definitely worth the watch! Even the servants have their own struggles and it just caught me up within the first episode!
