Noelle

 What a cute movie! Anna Kendrick plays Noelle Kringle, daughter of Santa clause and sister to Nick Kringle. Bill Hader plays Nick Kringle, Noelle's brother, and next in line to play Santa. He's having a hard time adapting to being the new Santa and he doesn't have that long before Christmas to get the sleigh ready. His sister, Noelle, tries to help, as does his mom, Mrs. Claus, played by Julie Hagerty, Elf Polly, played by the wonderful Shirley MacLaine, and Cousin Gabriel, played by Billy Eichner.  Cousin Gabriel takes on the mantel of Santa since Nick takes Noelle's advice and disappears to Arizona to "find himself." Noelle has to get Nick back or Christmas will be ruined. I truly just loved Noelle's different sayings in order not to use profanity: "That's pretty stocking half empty", "Oh my garland" and "Hold your reindeer". Oh, and Santa's helpers are a hilarious choir of 5 that follow Santa around. Noelle hires a private detective named Jake, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. The next dynamic appears as Jake has a son named Alex, who wants the best for his single dad. Alex believes in the magic of Christmas, but Jake does not. This story does it's best to turn things around for everyone involved! Even a little CGI reindeer is thrown in the mix. Definitely worth watching.

The Little Mermaid (2023)

 I'm actually glad that I took time to watch this. I am a true and die hard original animated Disney fan, so the soundtrack to the original animated "The Little Mermaid" sticks with me constantly. This movie surprised me. And pretty much set in the Caribbean. That does sound fitting for magical waters. Ursula - ok! Ok Ok I can do with this Ursula! Go Melissa McCarthy! The voice, the cadence, the look, the hand movements - even the bolero! Ok! I can definitely do with this villain! But Flotsam and Jetsam don't talk? Like, at all?  And Awkwafina...she's hysterical as Scuttle. I was apprehensive at first, cause I love the voice and cadence of Buddy Hackett, but Awkwafina adds her own twist to this. And "Scuttlebutt" - that's the song alright!  The queen is lovely! Very new and different addition to this tale. Mamma Mia!

 I already knew a lot of the songs in this movie, but this was my first time actually seeing it. So, Meryl Streep's character, Donna, loved three men the same summer she got pregnant. So who's the father? And Sophie wants her father there. But is it Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard or Colin Firth? All are really good actors and I had no idea Pierce could sing. This story is a whirlwind for Donna as well as Sophie, even to the point where she gets into an argument with her groom, Sky. Definitely a lot of fun with the two bridesmaids and the two friends of Donna's, who I didn't realize were Christine Baranski and Molly Weasley herself, Julie Walters! Over all this was a fun show and a lot of "whoops" to be sure!

Wonka

 yeah, I really enjoyed this! And not just because it had music! The story line was good, Wonka was not always treated well, and there were 7 villains, not just one! And they all worked together to keep Wonka down! But will Wonka be kept down? He cries a lot in the movie. And deservedly so. And he befriends Noodle, played by Calah Lane, who is doomed to be in the wash house for the rest of her days. There's a comedian down there, an accountant, a quiet girl and an engineer. Good people, just tricked by the Mrs. , played by Olivia Colman. Wonka is definitely a magician of sorts, but he has a love for chocolate. This is so interesting to see where he got his beginnings and the way he makes people feel along the way. And the Oompa Loompas....yes, they have their own island. Yes, they keep to themselves. And yes, if necessary, they are pretty sneaky. Hugh Grant did a great job as a long wolf Oompa-Loompa. Very funny indeed. This is definitely a film for any fan of the original Willy Wo
