Encanto

So, I guess I'm officially a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda. It took me 3 songs in to figure out his style and I guessed he was involved. And sure enough - he was. The quick talking lyrics of the songs and the beat and the dance moves of the animation was all just like "yeah, that's Lin-Manuel." I was waiting for a villain. Like, the traditional Disney Villain. Like Dr. Facilier or Clayton or Ernesto de la Cruz. And really, this story is about family. And lots of misunderstandings. The story is very pretty and the music is very catchy. But as for a Disney flick, I miss the villain. I miss the "evil". I miss the hero or heroes fighting a battle of wits and winning in the end. So yeah, my husband and I will own this when it comes out on BluRay, for sure, but I'm just holding out for a villain....

Spider-Man: No Way Home

This was a fun ride. Poor Spidey is known around the world because of Mysterio's video. The trio's future is now ruined and Peter thinks he can change that with Dr. Strange's help. Well, when Peter messes with the spell, things go crazy and wow! Villains! And I mean the big baddies show up! So do two very unpredictable surprises to help Peter! I was just sitting in the theater going "wow!" The final battle in this movie is pretty cool and the moves make a lot of sense. But the death! Ugh! Marvel has this thing about killing off our favorite people! I was gonna just cry right there in the theater! Overall, I'm looking forward to the next installment, what happens after the chaos, what happens to Peter's decisions in this movie, and how it affects the superheroes that remain. I'd definitely recommend this movie, but if you didn't see "Spider-Man: Far From Home", you won't understand the beginning of the movie.

8-Bit Christmas

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised to see this on the list for HBO Max! I enjoyed this movie so very much! 80s themes, bunch of guys after a Nintendo system, stupid bullies and brat sisters, parents that just don't understand - it was just totally cool! And Neil Patrick Harris does a great job as a dad. He really narrates this story very well and Winslow Fegley did a great job as a younger NPH. It's a fun Christmas story with a surprise ending. I'll have to put this on the list for next year as well!

Jungle Cruise

What a fun movie! And Mr. Johnson is always easy on the eyes on a film. His acting talent is just as wonderful to watch as his frame! He's witty, too! The writer for this film did an excellent job with all the characters' wit! Emily Blunt's character, Lily, was a bound and determined woman from the time we saw her on screen. She's very athletic to boot! Jack Whitehall plays her brother, McGregor, and the poor thing would be so lost without his sister. Mr. Johnson's character, Frank, came with an interesting twist in this movie and that gave it some more spark. Lots of action, lots of uncertainty and Jesse Plemon's character, Prince Joachim, gave my German ear a test of language and accent skills. Overall the writers did an excellent job with this - action, suspense, tears and just wasn't boring at all! I think Disney did a great job with this one!
