Luca

What a cute movie! Luca longs for something different, some change. And he finds it! It's forbidden, of course, but he stumbles on it, finds a friend or two, and wow! A vespa! For me, I totally loved the mother's voice. Found out it was  Maya Rudolph . I've seen her in other movies like "Bridesmaids" and such. But I loved her voice for  Daniela Paguro  and I loved her hair. I was like "wow: for an animated woman, her hair was flawless!" The character  Ercole Visconti is a jerk. HE was well-voiced by  Saverio Raimondo . If ever there was a villain boy, this guy was it. And bicycles and vespas and just a lot of fun! This is a nice adventure for a fish boy Shepard. It's good stuff!

In the Heights

This was a very, very good musical. And I miss Musicals. I do want to see the Broadway version some day so that I can compare. Navy's dreams and ambitions, then his love for Vanessa, and then his friend, Benny, kids around with him a lot about being "chicken", and yet, Benny himself can't face his own love, Nina. And Nina has her own thing going on with her dad and then there's Abuela Claudia. It's soooo good to see roles for older people. I thought they were extinct but no: Lin-Manuel has created a wonderful character in Abuela Claudia. And it was good to see Jimmy Smits still out there. The music is very catchy and the relationships are real. My husband and I went back and forth trying to figure out how much those houses really cost in Washington Heights, and how these people would have to work so hard to live there. But it's the people, the community, and that makes a "family." Yes, there are some with blood relatives who care, and then there

The Usual Suspects

Eh. It was a guy movie. A team of guys gets together to do some jobs and they all have their own endings. Literally. And the Kaiser Susa is not who I think it is. The only thing that got me was the rape of the wife: I just never like to see those in films. But I do understand the killing of the family and the want to go after the mob. I do get it. There are so many people I didn't understand that had to die, but so many that really needed to. Again, to me, this is a guy movie.

Raya and the Last Dragon

Friendship, betrayal, sacrifice and dragons. That sums up this movie for me. And wow - the animation was excellent. Raya has a quest: to find the last dragon. And she does. And Awkwafina does an excellent job as the voice of the dragon. Very, very fun! And Sandra Oh as Virana was just so very strong and powerful! And Roly Polies (pill bugs)...very fun. The movie was very magical for me. Not too harsh, not too soft...Disney did this one right!

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome

It's a better movie than "The Road Warrior". I just really couldn't get past the rape scene in the beginning. And overall, the point of this movie was survival, and the other to me was revenge and brutality. Of course, I enjoyed Tina Turner and seeing a different side of her: the actress. I've always known her for her music, and I love the title song, of course, but to see her as Aunty Entity, a queen, is something else. Mel Gibson did a better job for me in this movie. And the Australian outback with Tina Turner without an Aussie accent - I believed it. So yeah, I'd watch this one with someone who was curious about the Mad Max movies rather than "Road Warrior".
